Apple is said to be developing several apple foldable iPhone devices, with a clamshell flip phone and foldable tablet also rumored to be in the works. Earlier this week, a prominent Apple analyst claimed that the foldable MacBook will indeed be Apple’s first product in this category and will go into mass production in 2027. Now, a tipster has said that the company is planning to release a foldable iPhone in 2026.

According to Revegans (@Tech_Reve), the Apple foldable iPhone will be Apple’s first foldable iPhone, and the company is aiming to launch it in 2026. This new information contradicts a report from last month that claimed the company had halted the development of the foldable phone due to display problems.

The tipster cited a report by Korean media AlphaBiz that said an Apple foldable iPhone will be released in 2026. The report quotes a senior Apple official as saying that this sheds light on the iPhone maker’s plans for a foldable phone. “Apple has decided to launch a foldable iPhone in 2026, but it will be later than expected,” the official was quoted as saying (translated from Korean). “We know that because we released it later than our competitors, we have a higher concentration of cutting-edge technology.”

According to reports, Apple executives said the foldable iPhone will be thinner and lighter than its rivals, with a focus on preventing folds on the folding screen. “Specifically, the goal is to avoid the wrinkles that competitors struggle with,” the person was quoted as saying.

It has lagged behind in the field of foldable phones, but rivals Samsung and Google already have foldable phones on the market. Samsung has released five generations of foldable phones in both clamshell and book form, while Google launched the Pixel Fold last year.

This latest update contradicts reports earlier this week that Apple’s first foldable MacBook will be a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook, which is expected to go into mass production in 2027. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the MacBook is Apple’s only foldable product and currently has no clear development schedule. “According to my latest research, the 20.3-inch MacBook is Apple’s only foldable product that has a clear development schedule at this time, with production expected to begin in 2027,” Kuo wrote in a post about the X this week.
