Apple recently launched the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, but rumors have already started that the iPhone 17 lineup will arrive in 2025. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true.
The iPhone 17 is expected to bring even bigger changes than the iPhone 16, so we’ve compiled all the big rumors and reports here.
iPhone 17: release date
Like most iPhone releases, Apple is expected to announce and release its iPhone 17 lineup sometime this autumn.
Barring some delays, like in 2020, it is almost certain that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models will arrive in September, as the iPhone 12 launched in October. Things are always changing, but this is what is expected at this time. Unless otherwise informed, Apple’s next iPhone release date is expected to be September 2025.
iPhone 17: price
The iPhone 16 lineup was expected to see a price increase, but there was no price increase except for the iPhone 16 Pro Max model, which currently starts at $1,200 for the 256GB version (the 128GB version is no longer available). It was the only one in the iPhone 15 lineup to have a “price increase,” if you want to call it that.
iPhone 15 component prices were the highest for Apple, but the increase in production costs was absorbed. But that may not happen in 2024, so we may see a slight increase across all iPhone 17 models.
However, it remains to be seen how much the increase is likely to be.
iPhone 17: design
It seems that Apple may make changes to the design of the base model of the iPhone 17. MacRumors reports that three different prototype models with different designs have been introduced. However, what all three have in common is the vertical dual camera layout. The reason for the vertical layout is probably the spatial video recording of the Apple Vision Pro headset.
There are some differences between the three prototypes. One has a pill-shaped iPhone X-style camera. The other two have different lenses, similar to the iPhone 16 style. These prototype designs feature either integrated volume buttons with haptics or standard mechanical volume buttons with a capacitive action button and a new capture button.
According to MacRumors, the most likely design is one with capacitive action buttons, mechanical volume buttons, and a new capture button. In the rendering, it will be a black model. The capture button is placed on the right edge of the device, so the mmWave antenna has been moved to the left edge.
These prototypes also tell us what colors Apple will use for at least the base model of the iPhone 16. This includes light yellow, pink, and black. Other colors are still unknown, but Apple usually offers more than three colors for its base-model iPhones, so we should expect more colors to arrive.
On February 6, MacRumors reported that Apple appears to have focused on a different, thinner camera bump design than the one seen above. The latest prototype of the iPhone 16 features a vertical camera arrangement, which was mentioned in the first three prototypes, but now in a pill-shaped camera module. The main lens and ultra-wide-angle lens will now be in a vertical layout with two separate camera rings, and the LED flash will be near the bump location, similar to previous prototype designs.
These mockups from MacRumors also match the schematics leaked from @MajinBuOfficial on X (formerly Twitter). This slim camera bump is reminiscent of the iPhone X and iPhone XS models.
Additionally, the new prototype also sees some changes to the action and capture buttons. These new prototypes appear to have a small action button similar to the one found on the current iPhone 15 Pro. The capture button is also likely to be pressure-sensitive and is placed at the same height as the frame of the iPhone 16. This means that Apple may have abandoned the idea of capacitive action buttons.
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus appear to be the same size as the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, but the Pro model is slightly larger. According to reports, the display of the 17 Pro will increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the display of the iPhone 17 Pro Max will increase from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.
As display sizes increase, the physical dimensions of the device also become slightly uneven. This means that the body is slightly longer and wider than the existing iPhone 16 Pro models, but the thickness remains the same. As dimensions increase, so does weight.
On the subject of displays, the iPhone 16 series will reportedly use microlens technology in its OLED panels. This results in better brightness and more efficient power consumption.
The iPhone 17 is also expected to introduce new haptic buttons that were originally planned to feature on the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, it was postponed to 2024 due to technical issues. Rumors suggest that the rear integrated button design may come to the iPhone 17 Pro. New tactile solid-state button technology is used for the action buttons found on all 16 series models and a new capacitive button now known as the “Capture” button.
MacRumors has a report that suggests the new capture button may actually emulate the functionality of high-end cameras. According to the Weibo leaker, the button can detect multiple levels of pressure to simulate a two-stage shutter button on a standalone digital camera.
Mark Gurman claimed that you can record video with the capture button. The same information also states that the “Capture” button may also have additional functions, such as zooming in and out by swiping the button or focusing on the subject with a simple press. Both of these reports have now been confirmed by Weibo user “Instant Digital.”. The Capture button is also used to record video and adjust focus, clearly demonstrating Apple’s commitment to iPhone photography. However, while Instant Digital’s track record with Apple leaks appears to be mixed, Gurman and The Information are more solid.
iPhone 17: specification
The base-model iPhone 17 and 17 Plus should be equipped with the A18 chip. However, this may not be the same A18 Pro chip that currently powers the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple is likely to use a lower-cost process for its standard A18 chip, which may be used in the standard 17 series models.
Analyst Jeff Pugh thinks Apple will take a different route and simply use the A18 and A18 Pro names for the new chips. This means that all iPhone 17 models will be equipped with the A19 chip variation instead of the A18, which is considered the “last generation” chip.

- With this amazing update, you will get rid of the heating on your iPhone 16.
Overheating was an issue with iPhone 15 models on launch day, but Apple is said to have worked on a new thermal design to help dissipate the heat. This may come in the form of a graphene thermal system on the base iPhone 16 model, while the iPhone 16 Pro may feature a metal battery case. Currently, iPhones use copper for their heat sinks, but graphene has a higher thermal conductivity.
Apple is rumored to be working on its own 5G modem chip, but that won’t happen until 2024. Instead, the 16 Pro may use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem for faster and more efficient 5G connectivity. However, the base model iPhone 16 will continue to use the Qualcomm X70 chip that currently powers the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 is also likely to feature Wi-Fi 7 technology that can deliver speeds of at least 30 Gigabit/s and up to 40 GB/s.
iphone 17: Cameras
As already mentioned, the base model iPhone 17 and 17 Plus are rumored to have a vertical camera layout similar to the iPhone X or iPhone 12 style. The triple-lens camera system will continue in the iPhone 16 Pro models.
Apple is likely to add a big camera upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max with a new 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens. This is a significant jump from the iPhone 16 Pro’s existing 12MP. The 48MP ultra-wide camera delivers more detail in images, especially when taken in low-light conditions.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max may feature an improved eight-part hybrid lens consisting of two glass elements and six plastic elements for the 48MP main camera, telephoto camera, and ultra-wide camera.
The most interesting rumor is that both the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will have at least 5x optical zoom capability, as well as the larger Max version. However, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may also feature a super telephoto camera with significantly better optical zoom, which is what differentiates the two Pro models.
iphone 17: Battery life
The iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to use stacked battery technology, so battery life could eventually be improved. Stacking batteries increases capacity and extends their lifespan. It can also support 40W wired and 20W MagSafe charging speeds.
Charging speeds have long been an area where Apple has lagged behind its competitors. If the iPhone 17 really solves this problem, we could make good profits.
According to @MajinBuOfficial, we also have a good idea of what to expect from the batteries in the iPhone 17 lineup, with changes across the board. The leaker claims that the iPhone 17 and Pro Max will have larger batteries than previous models, but the 17 Plus will have a shorter lifespan and will actually have a smaller battery capacity than before. The Pro Max model also ditches the L-shaped battery design and returns to a rectangular shape, similar to the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus.
As of now, the standard iPhone 17 will have 4,561 mAh (up from 4,349 mAh in the iPhone 15), the iPhone 17 Plus will have 4,006 mAh (down from 4,383 mAh in the iPhone 16 Plus), and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have 4,676 mAh (up from 4,422 mAh on the iPhone 15 Pro Max). For some reason, there’s no word on what the iPhone 16 Pro will likely be. But that’s all speculation from @MajinBuOfficial and Apple’s take when it comes to leaks. The record is mixed.
iphone 17: Software and updates
The iPhone 17 lineup will arrive in the autumn, and Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is usually held in the summer to show off new software, so iOS 18 is expected to be released at the same time as the iPhone 16.
While many other technology companies are investing heavily in AI, Apple has remained largely silent. But that may all change with iOS 18 and Siri, as Apple works to power smart AI using large-scale language models (LLMs). Apple may introduce new LLM features to all iPhones, but some may remain exclusive to the iPhone 16 line.
Potential AI features include better interactions with Siri and Messages, improvements to auto-generated Apple Music playlists, and integration with productivity apps. There are also rumors of improvements to the microphone along with AI-powered improvements to the Siri experience, including better water resistance and a better signal-to-noise ratio.
